About the Workshop

The Breath Gas Analysis workshop was organized by INP Greifswald in cooperation with the Institute of Community Medicine (ICM), University of Greifswald, and was supported by SFB-TR-24. It convened researchers working on methods and applications of breath gas analysis.

Sessions were held at the Alfried-Krupp-Wissenschaftskolleg in Greifswald from Monday, June 7 to Wednesday, June 9, 2010. The conference language was English.

Workshops on breath gas analysis tend to bring together a varied audience of researchers, clinicians, and engineers who share an interest in exhaled air as a window into human physiology. The format typically combines oral presentations, poster contributions, and informal discussion, allowing participants to compare measurement techniques, calibration approaches, and emerging application areas. A central aim is to create a collegial setting where established groups and early-career scientists can exchange practical experience around sampling, instrumentation, and data interpretation across both clinical and environmental contexts.

Such workshops often devote attention to the practical side of organizing multi-day academic events, including registration procedures, payment arrangements, and the submission and review of abstracts. Deadlines for receiving and accepting contributions are usually coordinated with a timetable that runs from Monday mornings through Wednesday afternoons, with sessions balanced between invited speakers and submitted oral or poster presentations. Industrial exhibitions and sponsorship opportunities are frequently woven into the program, alongside social events that encourage informal exchange among participants arriving from many different countries and speaking in a common working language such as English.

Beyond the scientific program, attention is given to logistics that shape the participant experience, from venue selection and travel information to accommodation options and downloadable materials such as logos, maps, and announcements. Local organizing committees commonly cooperate with host institutions and supporting bodies, with contact details and an impressum provided for transparency. Venue choices in town centres, paired with clear road maps and nearby lodging, help guests orient themselves quickly, while final submissions and confirmations are managed through straightforward administrative workflows that keep the focus on the science rather than the paperwork.
